Lakeview Elementary School fourth graders explored the art of Mexican metal tooling during National Hispanic Heritage Month, creating colorful embossed designs in art class with teacher Brooke O'Neill.
Students began by studying reference materials featuring traditional Mexican folk-art designs for inspiration, then practiced drawing on paper before transferring their selected designs to soft metal using engraving and embossing methods. They added color to their finished pieces, highlighting the intricate patterns and textures created through the tooling process.
Each grade at Lakeview explores a different Mexican folk art-inspired project during National Hispanic Heritage Month, giving students opportunities to discover artistic traditions while experimenting with new materials and techniques. The fourth graders’ finished pieces are a beautiful reflection of their creativity and care.
