What did your teachers look like when they were in high school? Mahopac High School students recently got the chance to find out, and the results were entertaining.
Assistant Principal Cristina Giansante put out a call to staff members to submit their high school senior photos, then turned the photos into posters displayed outside their classrooms and offices. More than 100 staff members have already participated, giving students a chance to see a very different side of the adults they see every day.
The idea was meant to be fun, but it also gave students an opportunity to connect with their teachers in a new way, and, in some cases, sparked conversations about where staff members grew up, what they were like as students and how they eventually found their way to Mahopac.
“This really humanized our teachers and administrators for our students,” Giansante said. “They can see that their teachers and administrators were high schoolers once too, fun hairstyles and all.”
The photos may have gotten some laughs, but they also gave students a fresh perspective on the adults who support them every day.
