Student artists from across the Mahopac Central School District are being recognized for their creativity and talent in the Garrison Art Center’s SITE 2026 exhibition, “Rooted: Art and the Natural World.” The exhibit, which runs through March 29, features work from students at every Mahopac school building, reflecting the strength of the district’s art program at all levels.
The annual SITE exhibition invites young artists to explore the connection between art and nature, encouraging them to reflect on their relationship with the natural world. Under the guidance of their art teachers, students created pieces inspired by natural elements, including works made with materials derived from nature and art designed to interact with the outdoor environment.
Mahopac High School students were selected under the direction of art teachers Sean Flanagan, Jessica Hurban and Kaitlin O’Brien. At Mahopac Middle School, students were guided by art teacher Sean Mohammed. Elementary students were selected from classrooms led by Selina Bernat at Austin Road Elementary School, Melissa Lindsay at Fulmar Road Elementary School and Brooke O’Neill at Lakeview Elementary School.
Kaitlin O’Brien, Mahopac art department chairperson, praised the students for their efforts and artistic vision. “Our students did an incredible job interpreting this year’s theme and creating thoughtful, imaginative work,” O’Brien said. “We are so proud to have every school in the district represented in this exhibition, and it’s exciting to see their creativity on display in a professional gallery setting.”
Students and their families were invited to attend the exhibition’s opening reception on March 14, celebrating their achievements alongside other young artists from the region. The Garrison Art Center gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
