Mahopac Model United Nations Club Wraps Up Successful Season

Mahopac High School’s Model United Nations (UN) Club completed a strong fall conference season, participating in two successful conferences and continuing to grow student interest and involvement.

The club attended Brewster High School’s Model UN Conference on Nov. 15, sending 13 student delegates, one of the largest delegations in the club’s history. The conference welcomed several first-time participants, including freshmen Jack Blauer, Leto Copp, Elizabeth Hernandez and Olivia Tani, along with juniors Liam Baker and Aurelia Moser and senior Lucia Scarangella.

“The growth in our club has been great to see this year,” said club adviser Chris Ford. “We have many new members and a lot of opportunities for our students to grow, gain confidence in public speaking and learn about the world. Through Model UN, students are finding great ways to connect with students across the region, gain recognition for themselves and their school and set themselves apart for colleges and careers.”

The club continued its momentum on Dec. 6 at the Monroe-Woodbury High School Model UN Conference, where 10 Mahopac students competed across four committees. Topics ranged from the World Health Organization to an organized-crime historical crisis committee.

Senior Felix Copp earned the Outstanding Delegate award, recognizing him as one of the top two delegates in his committee, while senior Morgan Baker received the Best Delegate award for his committee. Freshman Max Didea and sophomore Jordan Shames also attended their first conference and shared their excitement about participating in future events.

Adviser Christine Honohan also supports the club, helping guide students as they prepare for conferences and develop the skills needed for success. With a successful fall season behind them, Mahopac’s Model UN Club looks ahead to continuing its strong performance and growth in the spring.
