Lakeview Multicultural Night

Lakeview Elementary School recently hosted its third annual Multicultural Night, bringing together students, families and staff for an evening dedicated to celebrating the diverse cultures and traditions within the school community.

“Multicultural Night is truly one of the most special evenings of the year at Lakeview,” Principal Elizabeth Blessing said. “It brings our community together in such a meaningful way, allowing our students to learn from and appreciate the diverse cultures and traditions that make our school so unique.”

Originally developed by the Lakeview Site-Based Team, the event was designed as an interactive, student-centered experience. More than 70 Lakeview families participated, hosting 16 cultural tables that showcased traditions, customs and heritage from around the world. The evening also featured support from Mahopac High School student groups, including the German Club, Model UN, RICE Club and Spanish Honor Society.

Upon arrival, students received “passports” and traveled from table to table, learning about different cultures while collecting stamps along the way. After visiting the stations, students took part in a variety of activities and experiences.

The event featured several highlights, including cultural dance performances by Clan na hÉireann Irish Dance, the Mahopac High School Dance Club and The Hive Dance Center. Students also participated in hands-on activities such as Italian bingo and an interactive flag activity supported by the Model UN Club. Lakeview staff members hosted a story time and attendees also enjoyed a Korean pottery-making demonstration led by Michael Porfidio, adding to the welcoming and engaging atmosphere.

Superintendent of Schools Frank Miele and Board of Education trustees Ben DiLullo and Jennifer Travis were also in attendance, joining in the celebration of culture, learning and community. The success of the evening reflected a strong collaboration between Lakeview families, staff, high school students and community organizations, all working together to create a meaningful experience for students.
