Mahopac Middle School’s Flexible Support Program (FSP) led a heartwarming schoolwide initiative this November, assembling generous Thanksgiving meal baskets for 18 Mahopac families. Clinicians and school counselors identified families who would benefit, and the entire school community came together to make the effort a success.
Students contributed nonperishable food items at recent school dances, while MMS staff and the PTO added additional donations. School social worker Kellie Rivera, teaching assistant Emilia Monzon and students in the FSP then spent the week organizing, packing and preparing the baskets for delivery ahead of the holiday.
“This project reflects the very best of Mahopac Middle School,” Principal Tom Cozzocrea said. “Our students and staff showed such kindness and teamwork, and Kellie and Emilia truly went above and beyond to make sure our families felt supported this Thanksgiving.”
The FSP’s mission is to help students develop strong emotional-regulation skills and positive responses to stress, both in and out of the classroom. This annual service project not only supports families but also reinforces the program’s values of empathy, responsibility and community connection.
