Lakeview Elementary School proudly celebrated its fifth graders during a moving-up ceremony, marking a joyful milestone as students prepare to transition to middle school. Family members, teachers and staff gathered to honor the achievements and growth of the Class of 2025 in a ceremony filled with pride, tradition and optimism for the future.
The ceremony began with a procession to “Pomp and Circumstance” by Sir Edward Elgar, followed by a Pledge of Allegiance and remarks from Principal Elizabeth Blessing. She celebrated the fifth graders’ growth and accomplishments and highlighted how the class embodied the school’s motto: “Grow, Achieve, Shine.” She praised their leadership, kindness and commitment to the Lakeview ROCKS values of being respectful, organized, cooperative, kind and safe, and encouraged them to carry those values into middle school. Blessing also reminded the students to choose their friends wisely and believe in their ability to make a difference in the world.
“Each of you are a dreamer, a doer and a difference-maker,” Blessing said. “You have everything you need to create a world that is kinder, more creative and fuller of possibility. Never stop dreaming big. Never stop believing in yourselves.”
During the ceremony, Officer Vincent Serio of the Carmel Police Department addressed the graduating fifth graders, reflecting on his time as their DARE instructor. He emphasized the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences and reminded the students that evaluating their decisions is a key part of personal growth. In addition, he announced this year’s Lakeview’s DARE essay winners.
The celebration continued with the presentation of two special awards given to students who exemplify the school’s values before each student was called to receive their certificates. The event closed with a recessional as the students and families looked ahead to the exciting new chapter that awaits in middle school.
