Fulmar Road Moving Up Ceremony

Fulmar Road Elementary School’s fifth graders marked an important milestone on June 24 as they officially moved up to middle school during a ceremony filled with reflection, celebration and encouragement.

Principal Gary Chadwick opened the event by welcoming families, faculty and special guests. In his address, Chadwick recalled the journey that began in 2019 when the students first arrived at Fulmar Road for their kindergarten screening.

“It seems like just yesterday,” Principal Chadwick said. “You were filled with the spirit of curiosity, which happened to be our theme for your final year at Fulmar.”

He praised the students for their growth over the past six years and the memories they’ve created, highlighting events such as Camp Kiwi, the DARE program and the fifth grade mural project that now brightens the school’s front lobby.

“You’ve grown in each and every hall,” said Chadwick, quoting the school song. “We turn the page to a new start, but Fulmar Road stays always in our heart.”

In her remarks, Superintendent of Schools Christine Tona shared her congratulations and words of support for the students and their families.

“It’s time to look ahead to your next great adventure, Mahopac Middle School,” Tona said. “It’s okay to feel excited and a little nervous. That’s how you felt when you first came to Fulmar Road, and look how far you’ve come since then.”

The ceremony also featured a performance of “A Fond Fulmar Farewell,” a song written by Fulmar alumni Delilah Alvarado, Nora Beltrami, Juliette Gojcaj, Camy Healey, Kaitlin McCarthy and Talia Lividini. In addition, several students were recognized with awards for their exceptional character and thoughtful reflection throughout the year.

Officer Vincent Serio of the Carmel Police Department also spoke during the ceremony, sharing lessons from his time with students as their DARE instructor. He emphasized the importance of making healthy, informed choices and surrounding oneself with positive influences. He presented DARE Essay Awards to several students who wrote about the importance of applying what they learned in the DARE program to real-life situations.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of certificates, a fifth grade slideshow and a reception with refreshments organized by the PTO. As students looked back on their elementary school years and ahead to their next chapter, Chadwick reminded them to carry forward their Fulmar Road spirit.
