Putnam County Youth Bureau speakers at 9/11 Memorial

Mahopac High School is proud to announce that junior Chloe Lex was selected to read her original essay, “The Impacts of 9/11,” at the Putnam County Youth Bureau September 11 Memorial Ceremony. Lex’s essay reflects on the bravery, unity and resilience shown during the tragic events of September 11, 2001, and honors the first responders and ordinary citizens who acted heroically that day.

Though Lex was not yet born when the attacks occurred, she studied the history through school lessons, news archives and stories from family members and the community. Her essay highlights the courage of first responders, the selflessness of passengers on Flight 93, and the legacy of her grandfather, Pat Rodrick, a retired Army captain and New York Guard lieutenant colonel, who rushed to assist on the morning of the attacks without hesitation.

“Hearing the stories of first responders who ran toward danger, of passengers who gave their lives to save others, and of my grandfather who acted immediately to help, has shaped my understanding of bravery, sacrifice and community,” Lex wrote. “I encourage everyone to honor the heroes of September 11 not just with words, but with actions that reflect unity, kindness and care for others.”

Interim Superintendent of Schools Frank Miele praised Lex for her contribution.

“Chloe’s words remind us that even though today’s students were not alive on September 11, they carry forward the lessons of that day in their hearts,” Miele said. “Her essay shows that our young people understand the importance of honoring sacrifice and building a stronger, kinder community. We are proud that she represented Mahopac at this important ceremony.”
