While classrooms were quiet during the summer months, members of the Mahopac Central School District’s technology department worked to ensure that students and staff return to a faster and more reliable network this fall.
One of the department’s largest summer projects involved the replacement of a major network switch and performing an extensive cleanup of a central network closet at several of the district’s buildings. The work required meticulous coordination and technical expertise as such networks connect critical systems – such as HVAC, water, telephones, WiFi and security – that cannot be offline for long periods of time.
“The fact that we have a team who can handle this internally is saving Mahopac taxpayers tens of thousands of dollars,” Director of Technology Benjamin August said. “The skill, precision and speed with which they’ve approached these projects is impressive and a testament to the strength and dedication of our tech staff, including network administrator David Greenfeld and technicians Richard Cristobal, Matthew Healy and Matthew Ljuljic.”
Teams of district network specialists finished work at Mahopac High School and Lakeview Elementary School, where over the course of three days they successfully completed an intensive upgrade, setting the stage for improved connectivity across the district.
The projects are part of a broader initiative to maintain and enhance the district’s technology infrastructure, ensuring it meets the demands of modern learning environments. Additional summer upgrades included hardware refreshes, device maintenance and security enhancements all aimed to support the Mahopac district’s commitment to providing students with a robust, technologically advanced and secure digital learning experience.
